I think there would probably be a cap on payments that go over a certain timeframe. The problem with that, of course, would be that there would be a rush to finish before the clock runs out & that would inevitably cause unnecessary mistakes that may lead to unnecessary deaths. It’s just a bad idea.
Of course, if the insurance did pay only to some predetermined max amount, the balance would then likely just be passed on to the patient. Anesthesia is billed in 15 minute increments. Surgery takes as long as it takes. Patients should never be held responsible for things they can’t control.
It’s just a money grab to them. Of course you will be anesthetized for the duration of time necessary. It’s a medical best practice one would hope. But you will be on the hook out of pocket for the time you “went over”.
I'm pretty sure that it was Blue Cross/ Blue Shield that wants to refuse this, but, if it saves them a dollar, the rest of the industry will, most likely follow suit.
It’s Anthem/Blue Cross, not UHC.
(Unfortunately, Anthem is my insurer, so I’ll be asking my doctors for the “fast-track edited highlights” procedure if I ever need one!)
The only thing starting to make sense is the frustration level of the average patient and perhaps the frustration of the shooter yesterday. Criminals can also wear button downs and ties to work, too.
The greedy little pigs that run heath insurance companies can’t get enough money they are constantly figuring out ways to make more profits even when their profits are huge! They don’t care about people just making more money

Always said health insurance should never be for profit publicly traded company.
It is like having ones savings RAPED by insurance companies and for profit hospitals🤬🤬🤬
