That’s all well and good. What about those living on SS right now? They’re sweating every day just waiting for republicans to drop the hammer o them. Who is protecting their SS?
Expanding the protections of social security and defending the program are essential. Thank you for your work on this.

Now I am eligible to retire with my “state” retirement and also my SS without reduction. Qualified for both…now if I could only live on both of those amounts.
Stealing $196 billion from the social security fund to pay more to people who already had a pension they never had to pay social security on (like the rest of us did.) Representatives need to learn to read.
They didn't for their public pensions. SS pays more on your first $1000k or so of your average (SS-paid) wage, to boost the payment to people who are on low wages. The social security formula never took into account that public workers avoided paying SS for most of their careers. WEP fixed that.
It is it's absolutely insane but it's because we are not large corporations. If we were corporations they would've already done this for us a long ass time ago. This is the United corporations of America.
Leave out the states add corporations a little win like this
No he doesn’t. He now has 10 days not including Sundays to sign. His term is one on the 21st of Jan where the new Congress takes their seats I believe it is Jan 3.
Following this mess everyday for the past year I learned a lot. Many of the rules are just archaic. They are different in each house. It really sucked trying to make sense of it and unravel it and I was a Social Science teacher for 18 years 🙄
Yes, but when will he sign it? Implementation? You have no idea how much this means to me, as a retired educator! I’m sure many others feel the same way! Thank you!
I am thankful for this, and I hope that all of Social Security recipients can feel safe that they will receive their benefits that they have paid into🙏
Yes, should have been repealed many years ago. Another Reagan policy started 40 years ago. It will cost about $200 billion dollars so the SSN funds will run out sooner. Congress needs to put back the money they took out to make it solvent forever.
I'm sorry but does anyone else look at these new laws and say which state will take this to the SCOTUS where the bidding begins on whether they are paid enough to kill it. That may be just me but I don't trust this court to uphold anything benefitting Americans.
Note: this only affects a certain portion of the population; not the millions who need protection. It's pretty much the same with politicians—GOP want to strip us of all our social safety nets, while Dems toss a few crumbs to appease a small group and then act like they've done something wonderful.
Some state legislatures are already talking about slashing teacher retirement programs. My husband worked 30 years under social security, then became a teacher. The money he paid into social security while working as a teacher is NOT included in his SS benefit amount under the new law.
How about a "Fairness Act" for everyone else who needs Social Security?
@POTUS Be Truly Impactful For Americans.
Today would be a Great Day to Restore Full Retirement Benefit Age to 65.
Also, Repeal the Tax on Social Security Benefits put in place by Ronald Reagan!
Public workers who opted out of paying social security for most of their careers where also given the same boost to their social security payment, if they had one, that low paid workers get. WEP adjusted that anomaly so that the payments were fair to everyone, but our representatives don't care.
Those of us who went into teaching for a second career are getting screwed on both ends. The pension after 14 years is ridiculous, yet I’m losing 1/2 my social security. I would have been better off not working at all and collect spousal benefits.
Yeah, pensions are crap. But the low-earner boost given to public pension recipients, considering they didn't pay social security all the time they were earning that, was unfair. Social security is just your second pension, or third. Many people don't have those because they had to pay SS.
It eliminates the government off set and the windfall elimination program. Some public servants worked enough years of mcjobs to qualify for ss IN ADDITION TO their public service. The WEP reduced their ss by as much as 40% because of their public service pension. Now they will get 100% of their ss
So does this mean they didn’t pay Social Security taxes, but will now receive benefits equal to those of us who have paid several percent of each paycheck for life?
No. It means that those who paid into Social Security before or after their career that allowed a pension will be able to receive benefits based on the fact that they paid into the system. So it’s kind of the opposite of what you’re asking.
Lucida is correct.
I worked in the private sector and paid into social security from age 15 1/2 to age 42, with a few breaks when I had my two kids. I get 50% of my fully earned quarters right now, and they stripped my survivor benefits, simply bc I chose to become a teacher later (public service).
I am a State worker who worked the first 25 years in the private sector paying into social security. I have been working for the State of Maine for 15 years and until now could only choose between my state pension or my social security. Now I get both. Thank you!

as recalculating? I wonder how far back they are thinking of
going?
you might have heard. 😊
Recently, STRS was $59M in the red, and many of my husband's co-workers weren't getting checks.
Yes, SS IS needed for those getting a pension.
Now what about the rest of us? tyvm in advance for actually answering the question.
Are they able to collect both now?
Do I get to really rub Biden's work in grandma's face?
Some people pay into it for over 60 years and they have to pass laws for us to have the $ we paid? WTF.
Leave out the states add corporations a little win like this
Crumbs they give us crumbs. Biden should also right now forgive all student loans.
May as well do it while I can right, but no, you won't see that
Beautiful!
What about individuals whose Social Security is their primary income….. You haven’t saved a Social Security at all
Another way to bend the truth again
