That's fine, but you do need to accept we can't just flick a switch and go back in. This will be a long and slow process that will need to demonstrate the benefits to the UK and EU at every step before we can move to the next. And the step labelled "free movement" may, I'm afraid, never happen.

Yes, I've appreciated that since before the vote. If I was ever unsure the long rejoin process and 2nd class deal probabilities decided me. It may never happen in my lifetime. However, it certainly won't if we don't make our feelings known and push for, at least, much closer links.

Agreed. But we need to start by forgetting "brexit". It happened, it's spilt milk. What matters now is to move forward, and we won't do it until we can put aside that uniquely divisive term.

I don't know that I totally agree. I recognize the term is doomed to be divisive. However, it encapsulates in one word, a geopolitical situation that there is so much to learn from. We could call it The Great Con if you wish. I suspect history will call it Brexit 😂

if you ignore the fact that the UK left the greatest peacetime organisation in history, or that none of the benefits have materialised, or that we're now allowing unprecedented numbers of migrants into the country, or we've lost access to things like Horizon, or... no. can't ignore that, can you?

britain was a "great trading nation" once, when it had the Empire, and could rapaciously exploit that and trade those goods. now it is a services based economy with zero natural resources, and manufacturing finally killed by Thatcher in her wars with the unions. now a small island off the EU coast.

That's tough. Luckily, I believe all my own and in law family voted remain. My husbands Irish family couldn't believe it happened. The same didn't apply to my work colleagues and it soured my final working year.
