The colors were just SO different than what I was used to. The CRT changed the vibrancy of certain colors and it was an overwhelming experience.
I ended up taking the palette from an older pixel art. The palette worked well with the CRT: nice subtle blues and vibrant oranges

Color count is radically different! I could create the same effect as the original LCD pixel with far less colors. The original used around 15 colors, the new CRTree uses only 10!

I create ramps through hue-shifting consistently up/down the color wheel, but as you can see on the CRT: the shared “red” values in the dark green shade blends in with the red roots of the tree. I tweaked the palette to shift to a cooler, saturated green to create contrast.

It was so EXCITING to see how clusters that look messy in LCD pixel art looked intentional, delicate, and intricate on my CRT screen! Compare how this part of the branch looks!

my favorite part about CRT pixel stuff is how colors *behave*, like blacks take over and seep into neighbors, anti-aliasing is almost built in, its wild

Whoa that takes me back to when I took a 2D/3D graphics course in Photoshop and 3D Studio Max, the CRTs at the school were all Phillips 100hz(ish) monitors and no amount of modern day LCDs with high DPI can match the crisp images, great looking pixel art 😲

What application are you using for editing? I recently had to do some pixel poking and I found PS to be somehow unaligned with my required workflow. Kinda wanted to emulate a retro machine to avoid all the accidental anti-aliasing and stuff.

This topic has fascinated me since I first became aware of it. The result is so smooth and life-like, but also so fuzzy and almost-ghostly it sorta feels like a dream or a vivid memory.

This was an interesting find and example you've shown. I now understand why pixel retro games look so weird on modern screens since they were made using advantage over the flaws of old TV screens. This is gonna take over my mind for a while now xd
