On 27th April 1994, Black South Africans voted in a democratic election for the first time. Days later, Nelson Mandela was elected president, ending decades of brutal apartheid rule in South Africa.

In 1989, 5 years before democracy in South Africa, Elon Musk immigrated to Canada. All he ever knew in his life in South Africa was the racist apartheid regime.
