I definitely feel this.
Taylor mentioned he would like all Laravel devs to deploy to Cloud, but spending 20$ per month just for the hosting platform + compute is a high entry to cross for projects that don't make money.

I would like to deploy a side project over and see what the actual usage costs are.

But I will probably keep hosting stuff on my 3-5$ VPS servers.

Absolutely. $5 VPS is the safest and cheapest way to build a database-backed prototype. Hell, you can launch it to the wide public for a while until performance starts to become an issue.

It was my own initiative to give Cloud a try to see if it's something we might consider. I'm not going to use the company card for that. I totally get that there are costs involved for the free tier, but this will never be "Vercel for Laravel" as long as it has this barrier of entry.
