both the abolitionists and the civil rights movements were complex cross-class alliances of wealthy donors, middle-class leaders like rev. king, working class and poor foot-soldiers, labor and religious organizations, etc.

no one single part is sufficient, it takes the integrated whole.

I'm not trying to undermine your point, because you're correct in almost every instance, but some of the most prominent US suffragettes came from wealth and privilege, including Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Julia Ward Howe. So maybe it's privileged men you can't expect much of.

Suffragettes were inherently marginalized and the wealthiest regularly risked their financial autonomy during a time they didn't have the legal right to retain property. Elizabeth Cady Stanton for instance only lived two years into the right to actually own her own property. Julia Ward Howe was 81.

And let me tell you about the Womanist movement and its roots in the Suffragette movement and the treatment of Black women by many of the prominent White women who felt they were useful props but disposable when enough gains had been made. No, being a woman didn't stop them from being fickle.

I would point out that there is a key difference here, and that is that in this case - not only have the wealthy simply watched which way the wind blows as in the past, but actively chosen the other side.

The media is 100% in the tank for Trump, because the death of America is good ratings.

Everything Trump does is 4 or more stories. The statement, the fact check, the backtrack, and then the weird press conference.
