I don't fault anyone who distrusts HBO to handle black Snape well, but I would suggest the most interesting thing about the flashbacks with James is Harry realizing people he looked up to when he was younger were often making the world worse

Caring about supposed allies funneling money to anti-LGBT billionaires to support dogshit entertainment media is different than caring about that shitty media
All her awfulness aside, who the fuck wants an eight to ten hour adaptation of each Harry Potter book? I have been struggling to understand who this series is for because her former readers will largely have moved on, and there's no way kids of a certain age will take to a more serialized format.
The vast majority of Harry Potter fans are millennials nowadays, and I have no doubt WB, Rowling, etc, have the data to back it up. Otherwise they wouldn't be making this Series, they wouldn't be making literal museums about the making of the films, the rides at the parks wouldn't be thrill rides.
I think it's basically their latest (and possibly last) effort to milk more money out of the franchise. The problem is that nothing *new* set in the world has been much of a success, whether the Fantastic Beast movies or the Cursed Child play, so it's a return to the basics.
It’s honestly a bit surprising even from a financial perspective in light of the (much talked about!!) relatively cool/middling reception to and return on Rings of Power. I don’t think this is going to go well for anyone.
The early Oughts basically trained Hollywood that the best way to mega-bajillions is to make a great big adaptation/franchise (Harry Potter, LotR, MCU). That strategy is wearing out, in part because all the low-hanging fruit has been plucked, but no one knows how to do anything *else*.
Yeah, this is exactly it, but the problem for Warner/HBO specifically is that, unlike Disney & Amazon, they don't have what are basically infinite piles of money to set on fire. I'm worried that going all-in on a $100+ million per season property like HP is going to destroy their TV studio.
HBO still makes mostly great television, and this could genuinely annihilate for their ability to do just that if it doesn't pan out for them financially. They're betting the farm on this franchise reigniting its fanbase, and I don't think it's gonna work.

Me, when I was younger: This is an amazing insight, JoAnne, I really look up to you!
I'm sure people who pretend to support LGBT communities will make her another billion dollars eating this member berry shit up
