If the player didn't control the camera in every game we could make games be more cinematic without having to stuff them with cinematics and slow walking sections
Wanting games to be cinematic and have free camera control is a contradiction
The game you used as an example is a very particular kind of game, for most games it would be substantially harder to achieve this level of cinema, especially if they have a big focus on skill based gameplay
sometimes. but there are quite a few games that are mostly free angle and use fixed angle during specific, more narrative driven scenes where the player still has control over movement. quite common with over-the-shoulder shots
This is what immediately came to mind. Wes Anderson's films are pretty much 'theatre for the screen'. The sidescroller mechanic seems like a natural point of comparison.

It is a pretty cinematic game but it's also not a gameplay focused game at all for what i understand no?
What i meant is that you have to make sacrifices that you don't have to make with fixed cameras to achieve this
I don't know why all games have to be free camera when it's obviously easier to make cinematic games with fix cameras
