They're about 15 mm, give or take? And yes, their mandibles are amazing! I'm learning about them from my colleague/collaborator. They're his colonies and my team is caring for them while his team does field work.
And workers not only retain the ability to mate, but they can mate with brothers and sons with no inbreeding depression (while still sending out sexuals for dispersal outbreeding, somewhat like an anemone buds locally and sexually broadcasts). So colonies can live forever, theoretically.
And while workers will hunt to eat live prey, egg-laying gamergates go through a major physiological change where they forget how to hunt -- crickets will even be able to take bites out of them!
