They could arrest him as a terrorist, expecaly with the kind of influence he has because of his money, and demand that South Africa put him to trial under German law in order to keep peace treaties.
I’m only speaking specifically to the salute thing; they can’t prosecute him for breaking their laws in another country. But his general interference in their politics? Oh yeah, he’s taking some chances there.
Germany still prosecutes citizens for Nazi propaganda even when abroad. I'm genuinely surprised Germany hasn't revoked Musk's stuff and kicked him out for it.
I don’t think the police ‘protect’ them, but there is free expression there. I find GENERALLY there are fewer regulations by government and more responsibility placed on the individual to behave appropriately
the police do protect them. there was a querdenker (= conspiracy theorist nazis) demo in my city a couple days ago. the entire city was full of police in riot gear + so many of them marched alongside the nazis that each had basically a personal pig bodyguard. the police were extremely nice to them.
Querdenker seems to be like our q-anon, who tried to over through our government on the right, losing the previous election.
So your saying that the laws just made your nazis hard to find.
yup.
And the Querdenker people aren't exactly like qanon, but yeah. They started as a group of vaguely right-wing anti-maskers, but you can find anything from cryptofashs to biker nazis, skinheads + random right wing gen-x-ers among them. Nowadays, most of their protests are about being pro-AfD
While we're on the topic; The upcoming election will likely be won by CDU (a christian conservative party) and AfD (a newer party of actual nazis like björn höcke and alice weidel.) They get a lot of their rhetoric from the american right, elon musk went on live with alice weidel a couple weeks ago.
the police were also extremely hostile to counter-protesters and physically attacked a lot of us. by all means, this is the police protecting nazis. and mind you, this was in a pretty liberal city. it's much worse elsewhere in germany.
i'm not a troll. what's written in law says little about what actually happens here. i know american lefties like to idolize europe but it's not perfect over here either, we do also have a huge nazi problem
I know it's not perfect but it fucking sucks to hear that no one has their shit together , we like to believe that someone in the world has it figured out to be a decent country.
not only have they not stopped him, but he is also currently backing the "totally just the nazis again but following the bare minimum of plausibility regarding the law" party in Germany

Even if not, weve forgiven Germany for worse in the past.
They could do the whole world a favor tossing him in an oubliette
