Seems we're about to enter the time where Game Pass becomes a necessity. Bringing games to PS5 ultimately seems like a great advert for that. Spend £70 on Doom or get 5 months of Game Pass to play that, Avowed, Indy etc. MS has taken a lot of heat but it's about to pay off. - ThreadSky

I feel like we've been hearing this for like almost 10 years now - but its never actually come to fruition. And now more than ever, when every single title they are shipping is coming to PS5 (including Starfield!) - what reason is there to own an Xbox anymore?

It's literally just a value proposition now. Xbox doesn't have any proper exclusives in the traditional sense, but they have easily the strongest publisher line-up of anyone this year. Do you spend $$$ on those titles on PS5 or a little over $100 to play it all on Xbox over the course of 12 months.

What you have to remember is that the vast, vast majority of consumer spending is one or two titles a year at most. I'd be doubtful Xbox are going to be able to get those people across for game pass.

I used to think the same - but the data every year shows that regardless of titles being on Xbox - they generally sell exponetially more on other platforms (primarily Steam). It's also lso shown that gamepass users play less games (and play them for less time) than other platforms. So while (cont)

...on paper it sounds like a no brainer - more games less money!!! - in reality, it seems when it comes down to it, people prefer to buy their games to keep on other platforms. I mean, I get it, if something is on gamepass AND Steam, I'm still buying it on Steam. It's where my library is.

I think in reality, gamepass is either a 'try before you buy' system (only 4% of gamepass users finish games, vs 28% on PS) or 'I would never have paid for this, but ill give it a spin on game pass for free'. Of course, there are outliers, but I think the number of people whos main library is Xbox..

...is a slowly dwindling number. Of course, there are people who absolutely contradict that point. But Xbox havent had people building libraries on that platform for almost 2 generations now. I don't think Xbox being good value has fixed this issue in a very long time.
