New analysis of relationship between car weight and fatal collision rates in the UK finds “ppl driving heavier cars are disproportionately involved in more fatal collisions”.
Particularly the case for those involving other cars or pedestrians.

“… heavier cars are more likely to be involved in fatal collisions and average car weight in the UK is increasing, which may lead to a rise in fatal collisions if the trend continues.
Reducing car weight could mitigate the severity and frequency of collisions.”

Obvious to everyone the trouble they cause; + pollution, wear & tear on roads, oversized parking, poor visibility for others…
And too often tax subsidised…
Empirical observation also suggests bigger SUVs are driven faster and more aggressively. This should also be researched.
Surprised that the suggested interventions omit speed reduction measures, esp. given the square law between velocity and force; e.g. more urban 20mph limits.
