Christopher Wray is hardly the only official to fold in the face of Donald Trump’s early threats. Are these examples of preëmptive surrender, or is something more strategic going on?

Smart. Triggers the Vacancies Reform Act, Biden "can temporarily replace that appointee (such as FBI director) only with a person who has already received Senate confirmation or with a person who has served in a senior capacity in the agency for at least 90 days in the year before the resignation."
He's gone because the new President wants someone else at FBI. New boss wants Head Office closed and 7000 staff dispersed around the country seeking bad guys. So States will be renting lots of offices.
Chris Wray did not fold. He acquiesced for Don Trump over the past 4 years. He held up investigations, he withheld prosecutions of elected insurrectionists, he protected pipe bombers, he failed to investigate a phony assassination. He’s fired because a Q has to be implanted.
