If you start reading comics,anything written by Alan Moore is a good place to begin. Actually, you could skip over any other writers and just read his stuff. Its great.

The only other thing of his that I've read was From Hell (which I barely remember at all, apart from vague London psychogeography, but i might be conflating it with another book).
