Classism in America is insidious. Perpetuated by predatory parents who want their children to owe them for what should be earned with grades alone. Socialize education for equal opportunity to earn privilege.
Seriously I was the best worker in my section back at my old job and all the plant manager did to thank me was to make us do more work even faster and less errors also $10 in coupons while giving mostly everyone else in the factory a $1-$3 raise
Analytics and corporate groupthink are what messed things up for everyone, it seems. You have all these consultants going around brainwashing businesses with paradigms and synergy and growth strategies that management completely forgets what actually makes a company work.
58 yrs old, been working since 1983, degreed, "professional" career position for 30 years: little hope of ever owning a home, unsure about retirement. It ain't only young'uns getting hosed by the "dream". GenX is the first American generation to not be better of in aggregate than their parents' gen.
They came home from the war and were rewarded with free college on the GI Bill and a post-war economy in which a family could buy a house and two cars while raising kids (the boomers), with regular vacations, affordable healthcare, retirement, etc., on the salary of one earner.
