Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) is up now. As other dems on the committee have done, she expresses frustration that Hegseth would not agree to meet with her ahead of the hearing.
She says she's interested in Hegseth's views on veterans. She's going to ask him a series of questions about that.
Rosen: Your answers to these, they're too broad. Americans want to know if you support veterans getting the benefits they've earned. Do you think veterans are dependent on the government, or is it a benefit they've earned?
Rosen: Now I'm moving on to America's role in the world. Do you agree that the US cannot compete with Russia, China, etc. alone? Does America First mean abandon our strategic allies like NATO?
Hegseth: Senator, our friends in the world have no better ally than Trump, who made NATO more robust...

Eric Schmitt (R-Missouri) has the floor now. He's talking about "weakness" and "wokeness" and railing against DEI in the military. The American people are tired of woke ideology, he says.

Somewhat weird line of questioning for this particular nominee. Wonder where she's going with this.
