The TikTok ban will not solve our problem. Unlike most other wealthy countries, we have underdeveloped, primitive data privacy and rights. The government could have made laws that give us ownership and rights to our data. They didn't because Meta/Twitter et al. don't want that to happen.

Concerns about TikTok’s threats are valid—issues like data privacy, content manipulation, and foreign influence deserve serious attention. But these concerns aren’t being applied equally to other platforms, and that’s the problem.
