A pretty standard bit of conventional wisdom over the past 10+ years: moving to the left on immigration policy might lose you some white voters, but it'll sure win you a lot of Latino voters.

A slow realization for the democrats is that the Latino population most closely matches the large general electorate. Appeal to their concerns and you will win the general. Catering to the aspiring middle wins every time.

I live in the central valley of California. Extremely high Latino population, as it's all farmland. Majority are republican. Most of those who have been here for more than 2 generations absolutely hate immigrants.. Even if their fam came in the same way.

I wish more articles distinguished between immigration reform and *immigration enforcement*. Latinos stopped taking Dems seriously when they never delivered on reform. Thus creating a reason to consider voting for republicans for other reasons. Dems responded by going soft on enforcement. A mess.

Thank you because it’s really hard when everyone around me is MAGA, which includes my husband and former best friends. And they are white Americans. My husband has been brainwashed by fox within the last 4 years. I don’t even know who he is anymore.
