As much as I appreciate Wolfman's/Pérez's creation, Murakami recognized too many characters already had angst as their salient character trait and wisely fast-forwarded Vic past that.
"I COULD HAVE BEEN A FOOTBALL STAR" is only so relatable to comic book nerds.
I couldn't find it but the comic book scene is homaged in one of the TT episodes where it's just one kid with a prosthetic arm; when the kid says they have something cool in common Cyborg inverts his lesson with Starfire, reminding the kid being good people inside matters more than mechanical parts.
