Gave me a mild heart attack on this one when you mentioned Phillip Hughes passing away in 1994, I thought "oh my goodness it wasn't that long ago, I remember that like it was yesterday!"

It wasn't yesterday, but it wasn't 1994 either - it was 2014. He was wearing a helmet, just really poor luck.

He was, and there was a lot of talk at the time about how it didn't make a difference - he was struck high on the neck, just under the rim of the helmet, and suffered an arterial dissection that led to a bleed in the brain. A fast bowler can deliver at 95mph, and the ball is harder than a baseball.
