Maybe it's because it's Monday, but today I am particularly grumpy about the scores of journalists & news outlets who hide behind the idea that journalism is merely about reporting what happens & not about analysing it.

It's not just about investigative journalism, though. It's a deeply ingrained bothside-ism that makes even everyday journalism imprecise, & sometimes in effect a smokescreen for authoritarian forces.

I agree, this summarises the situation in the US very well. But the situation is very different in Europe, for instance, where newspapers are not serving the rich in the same way - certainly not rich Americans - yet often fail to do proper reporting.

Unfortunately it’s harder and harder to trust outlets which I think is by design. My local news has NOTHING. On current events in DC.
