On one hand, there's the argument that we all job hop constantly now because of rolling layoffs, so you can't count on an email address at a workplace being stable.

But on the other hand, dawg are you gonna tell me that DISCORD is your response to that problem? Good luck, I guess.

i did a couple mutual bsky followings, but there was an element of "are you also on this" rather than it being assumed that everyone already was.

A lot of people see Discord now as the skype/AIM thing. Like being in a hundred servers is perfectly fine. I regularly pare out servers I don't do much in.. there are some I only lurk in simply because the game is that good, for example, and it's the easiest way to check things. But i hate it.

I've actually seen a huge uptick with discord as a tool for this with my own stuff; bluesky is potentially good but you can't do simple things with it. Discord offers control over who has the ability to message/call you, video or otherwise. Useful!

It might be slightly before your time but there was an era where I did a lot of business over AOL Instant Messenger. Discord feels like it’d fill that gap but also I don’t want to get random outreach from people I barely know via Discord.

I was just getting into all of it when AIM was on its way out. But totally - I do business with some of my vendors over Discord and the rapid style makes total sense. But even then I'd prefer to start over email.

Absolutely, totally different thing, different level of access, all of that. A lot of the bad paid sponsorship emails I get to my youtube email put their discord handle in there and seem to want to continue the conversation there, and it just seems super gross, overly forward, all that.

I know for a lot of Creators, Twitter is still asked for in request forms and what not, I'm only starting to see people asking for Bluesky and that is very rare.
