I mean, I'd argue we'd probably as a society be better off if literally every single social media app/site was banned. I'm not sure how you'd do that and not be an actual villain though, and banning just one specific one seems like the worst possible choice.

I'm fairly convinced it's a lose/lose situation with no right answer. Unmoderated social media IS propagandizing a gazillion people, but I don't really know how to solve that aside from some level of moderation, which isn't probably possible, and would never be implemented if it was.

I think it is fair and reasonable to not allow our greatest political enemy to control a social media company and push Chinese propaganda. They could have sold it to avoid the ban but chose not to. The mistake is that it took this long. Would you feel differently if it was owned by North Korea?

Unfortunately he's a us citizen and enjoys the protection of the constitution as much as I'd love that not to be the case. And while he's awful, China is a much bigger threat to the US.

Also, the inability for our law makers to successfully regulate new media, and instead choosing to remove billions of income from Americans and silences millions as well. Is significantly more concerning then hypothetical Chinese influence.

I appreciate your response and agree with most everything you say. I believe our lawmakers are not serving our best interests with new media and billionaires. But I don't see how allowing China to run a social media platform makes that better.
