NEW — In an alarming email last night reviewed by me, Coast Guard members learned that 1,135 members' direct deposit account routing information was compromised due to a data breach from unauthorized access.

It was only discovered because an officer “reported anomalous activity” on their account.

even the critical mainstream coverage has a huge problem in adopting DOGE's preferred framing that these guys are all-around tech geniuses. They have no infosec experience. They're script kiddies and knob-jigglers. To the extent they're pros at all, it is in data exfiltration.

their primary mission seems to be exfiltrating all the data they can find as quickly as possible. People who only care about doing that will break down whatever protections are in their way, and do not care about putting them back. They're fundamentally burglars.

The most open question to me is whether Musk has hired them with the express purpose of stealing data for him or whether he's so out of it and clueless he's hiring people who match his energy to implement his "grand vision" and has no idea that these guys are stealing every iota of data they can.

I think the main piece of evidence against the idea that he's trying to stably commandeer these systems and use them for some grand strategy is that some of his top DOGE people are senior tech execs, and those people can't possibly take that idea seriously. I think this is pure theft and destruction
