Not had time to read your critique but in future osf preprints accept this kind of work without hassle in my experience. Disappointing news on the dance! And you were right to pursue. Science needs tightening up. Too much nepotism for proper integrity I guess.

"numerous key papers". No. Have you read the blog article that you are quoting? We are talking about one author from the late 90's. Admittedly, these articles made a splash, but waggle dance scientific literature is way older and broader. The waggle dance was discovered in the 1920's by von Frisch.

2/ The waggle dance is well documented, there is a ton of literature on it. Srinivasan's contributions were on the quantitative measurements that indicated how honeybees actually measure the distance (and not only direction). Read Lauras and Liors paper on arXive! https://arxiv.org/pdf/2405.12998

Adrian Wenner, my undergrad advisor at UCSB, was a famous critic of the waggle dance language hypothesis. He would have been thrilled to read this.

Interesting! There even seems to be literature on that: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10739-005-0552-1 - but am I wrong in saying that in the end, von Frisch was vindicated, and not only by the Nobel Prize? As in, much more evidence was accumulated from other researchers as well.

That is certainly the scientific consensus. Wenner suggested that olfactory cues were more important than the information that exists in the waggle dance. Even if that perspective is mostly wrong, he taught me valuable lessons about scientific skepticism.
