Where are the guides for ‘How to play DND if you have a possible undiagnosed ADHD and can only self-medicate with copious amount of caffeine?’. Asking for a friend. 😰

For whatever reason, my previous group found singing Eye2Eye from the Goofy Movie before each session to somehow be rather helpful. Dunno if it works with all tables though.
I have some players that have ADHD. While I haven't sat them down and interrogated them on how they manage it; I'm fairly sure they occupy their hands based on some conversations. Playing with cards, rolling dice, doodling, even playing something "brain empty, no thoughts". Anything to direct chaos.
Do everything above but also DM and create your own world with complete mythology, lore, and history with storyline and at least 4 different dungeons that must be run in sequence and 1 must be completely open world scenario 😂
From a FOG with ADHD. Get diagnosed so you know for sure.
Also, caffeine does nothing for treating adhd - it just raises your anxiety level to the point that you HAVE to do something about your procrastination.
One core aspect for a lot of folks is it's a social event with a mechanic driven element that, in a lot of ways, is an excuse or framework for the socialization.
Is everyone having fun?
If yes, you're doing it right.
3. Have a partner PC. This works for other nuances too. A veteran player can help a newbie. A less hyperactive player can reel you back in if you start to wander
4. Stay hydrated. With water. As someone diagnosed with ADHD, I find that being thirsty is my biggest detractor
I GM for a group that all has ADHD while having it myself. It’s a ton of rambling, side tangents, and lots of laughs. I’ll write down my strategy if I can remember to :}

uh, also for a friend
Then run into scheduling hell for ages because nobody can ever get together to play when you finally decide on one.
Then either give up, or become a DM and use them as NPCs. (100% not me btw)
World map final v2final final copy v3final.png will keep living for a while yet...

I used to play with guys who drank room temperature Mountain Dew to stay caffeinated.
They liked it that way.
1. Lean into it with your character. A part of role play is using your character as a way to express parts of yourself you otherwise mask
2. Rely on your DM. A good DM will notice when you’re spacing out. A great DM can keep even the most neurodivergent on a hook

Chances are, once the game gets going and you’re invested in your character and party, the only thing you’ll lose track of is time.

You’ll get a good sense of how games flow, basic mechanics, how to RP, etc.
Mechanic-wise? I’d reccomend XP to level 3. They do their best to make videos entertaining and simple.
Here’s their Barbarian!

Dimension 20 is one I recommend to almost anyone tbh.
Wildly creative, hilarious, great characters, roleplay and it really shows you how creative you can get with stories/settings
