And what does Elon care if your commercial plane crashes? He has his own private jet. So does every other billionaire in Trump's cabinet.

Also, domestically we can do whatever we want. But if our planes start being a danger to other countries under ICAO they can ban US airlines. It's too early to know what went down with today's Delta flight but that's exact the type of shit other countries don't want

I'm not even an aviation expert. Like mechanical/aerospace engineering doesn't itch my brain. I just lived in Montreal where ICAO is headquartered and have flown in a lot of weird plane types (bush planes, float plants etc). Like just mildly curious about how they're keeping me alive

My entire feeling about this is summed up in the single line in the cover story they built for Obediah Stane at the end of the first Iron Man movie, about how private airplanes have terrible safety records. I heard that and it stuck with me ever since.
