Windows back in the day used to have a neat little feature called the briefcase, and it is probably the only form of file synchronization not targeted at nerds that ever worked worth a damn.

I know “not targeted at nerd,” excludes git, but honestly might be good to teach it in schools like how they teach word processors, it’s a very useful tool
Yeah, I used it a lot during my first go at undergrad by shuttling work from my ThinkPad 560Z to the university's lab computers. Never lost data from it. It was magical.
Ah, but now you can instead give microsoft all your files so they can live in the cloud so they don't need to be synced. I am sure it will be completely secure and reliable and won't ever be used to train generative AI.
Ohh I forgot that thing. It used to whizz down the screen all happy when you called upon it. Back then life was in a happy balance between much easier than typewriters and letters, and far less complicated than the instant world of “do it now “ emails, texts and WhatsApps.
