Sam Altman is saying AGI is coming next year.
You just need to keep giving him money, then it's surely happening! It's inevitable! No, definitely! This time, the singularity is real! It will be your fault for not giving him enough money if eudaimonic utopia doesn't spontaneously burst out of him!

i had to read with a dictionary on my nightstand cuz i was too young to know anything about anything.
The "AI will become human-level, we can have slaves" and "AI will become human-level, it will kill us all" crowds are a
match made in scammer heaven. (Neither will happen.)
It's an extraordinary claim, possibly the most extraordinary claim. And scores of people believe Altman.
What’s the point? The AI people claim that it will solve all our problems. Illnesses. Poverty. Climate change.
We’ve had more than 100 billion human-level intelligences over thousands of years of civilization and haven’t solved these problems.
A theoretical AGI (again, won't happen) couldn't tell us anything that we don't already know, which boils down to more or less "take care of each other".
How do people get so blindingly invested in bullshit? Do I have a disease and miss the bullshit appreciation part of my brain?
[flips table (not really, because I'd throw my back out)]
Reality is AI will be used for 3 things: to sell you stuff you don’t need, fire people from jobs they do need and something to do with what rich old white men like either golf, porn or cheating on taxes.
Wouldn’t that be quite ironic?
I mean, I know why-- nobody gives you $10B for that
"We're on the cusp of going from Excel '97 to Excel 2007" just doesn't have the same sales pitch power lol
They're just a bit slower, because they use meat-based processing, but "Corporations" kind of fit the bill.
If only everyone recognised Sam for the genius that he is instead of tearing him down...
Sure worked for Elizabeth Holmes - who seems to be Sam Altman's role model.
It sometimes sounds like they like the idea of holding someone captive more than imagining a better future.
