It's normal, that's why we can learn things.
Guns have exactly one purpose, so it's not necessary to understand how it technically works.
LLMs otoh are supposedly doing literally everything, so without understanding what it actually does and how it does it, it's impossible to criticize it.
Medicine is a big outlier there, because people really have a poor and often backwards understanding of how e.g. vaccines work
I think the reaction also has to do because you suggest that they don't think enough to suggest it.
