I worked with the exact type of motors when I built industrial lasers.

We called them "Motor Mics" as they were use for micrometers. Super fractional voltage moved them up to 18v for full speed (fast).

Very precise.

My current mount now has strain wave gearing, basically what industrial robots use.

Don’t even need a counterweight now!

Oh very nice!

Our motor mics just moved the optics. We had to move fast and precise for cutting. These particular motors had zeri travel with no voltage. They were instant on/off. Really fun to watch when programmed.

One of my old Meade mounts got stuck on lunar rather than sidereal tracking and I was very confused for a long time as to why its tracking was terrible, no matter how much effort I went into balancing the OTA. :)
