There's a moving part of the CNN documentary on the life of Christopher Reeve. In Super/Man, Reeve shows up at the 1996 Democratic National Convention.

The actor who played Superman is paralyzed, in a wheelchair, praising the Americans With Disabilities Act. He noted around 250,000 Americans had spinal cord injuries. He urged more research for the disabled, as a moral and economic responsibility.
"America does not ... let its needy citizens ... fend for themselves," he said. He spoke it with such a calm but faltering voice. I find this memory of Reeve, who died in 2004, resonates in my mind.
Compared that to today. We have a man in the White House, voted to be there for the second time, who mocked the disabled. He thinks that DEI needs to die. This is not the same America.
