Michael Chabon - The Yiddish Policemen's Union.

People often recommend this in the category of "Books like Disco Elysium", and it is as close as you're going to get I think. It's not as daft, but it's a very solid, mildly comedic detective story set in an alternate history. Highly recommended.

Ridiculous ass question for the like, two people reading this that have climbed the mountain that is Infinite Jest: Do you think the physical act of handling the book & flipping back and forth between the text and the footnotes is a necessary part of the experience?

In the same way that House of Leaves requires physically navigating the book through literal twists & turns, is the act of interrupting the paragraph, flipping through just to get to a footnote of dubious importance, and then flipping back, relevant to the experience DFW was trying to convey?

I've been alternating between reading a physical copy & the ebook, and its hyperlinked nature almost makes it feel like going down a wikipedia rabbithole on the ebook, but (while MUCH EASIER TO DEAL WITH) that's a fundamentally different experience than what the physical copy expects of the reader
