We need to build anti-fossil fuel CDR, and at DFP we’ve been explicit about that since we started working on CDR almost five year ago. I think there’s a nuanced conversation to be had on CDR. Lots of good stuff on our work here: https://www.dataforprogress.org/carbon-dioxide-removal

This survey didn't ask voters about fossil fuel companies and CDR, but we've done some past work on this which may be of interest! This survey asked Californians about what role (if any) the fossil fuel industry should play in CDR. Threading some findings.

1/ A majority of Californians (66%) agree with a statement claiming that fossil fuel companies should be required to pay for CDR projects because their industry created excess carbon pollution in the atmosphere and lied about it for decades.

2/ 66% also agree with a statement saying, “We should leverage the experience that fossil fuel companies might have about removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. But, we should first make these companies be publicly owned, to ensure that the people can decide how or if they contribute to CDR.”
