It kills me that anyone would think of doing away with the FDIC. That organization has kept billions of people from losing their life savings over its existence. Also has anyone else worked through a bank failure? I have. Colonial Bank in 2009. These little stickers showed up on EVERYTHING.
W/O the FDIC, when Colonial Bank failed, the largest depositors probably might have gotten back some of their money. Most people would have gotten NOTHING.

I paid into my SS account for 30 yrs. That's money I "saved." It's not in the US budget. It's a separate entity funded by other "savings accounts." It's not an entitlement as it's money I earned. Unless 401k accounts are viewed as part of the government budget, trump, et al, should shut up about it.
I have sense that SSA is still used by GOP as a political football...McConnell has said several times GOP won't gut SSA. But Trump and his version of the GOP seem on target to cut FICA and income taxes that help support SSA. That's the bit that scares me.
SS is a fund of money that isn't in the hands of wealthy investors. Those people HATE that it is not available to them. Trump's billionaire's club wants to liquidate it in return for more tax cuts or just outright confiscate it.
