Article 31 of the 1951 Refugee Convention - to which the UK is a signatory - says that refugees may not be penalised for entering a state by irregular means. Doesn't this basically make the whole concept of an "illegal" immigrant rather dubious?

As someone who hopes to one day acquire ILR, I am thrilled to learn that people will *still* count me as an illegal immigrant.

(I am very much not an illegal migrant, the UK gov has stacks of paperwork to prove this.)

I've had a response from IPSO relating to my complaint... I don't think this is satisfactory. It isn't a matter of academic debate that including people who are not illegal immigrants in a statistic of the number of illegal immigrants living in London, IMHO. It's a lie.

As a counterpoint - she got to say 1 in 12 on air, and it’s obvious from the weasely correction she’d have fun conceding it should’ve been 1 in 13. Without any counter claim, that figure is now very much reinforced in the minds of her audience.

She seems to have players the much smarter game here.
