the whole "are video games art" discussion is so stupid cause the only reason they wouldn't be is because it's too hard to develop a superiority complex over being a gamer

I actually wrote a college argumentative essay on this topic I can't remember what class it was for but the professor gave me and A. Art is art regardless of form imo
I had this whole argument with a couple people before and I find it so interesting how many seemingly think that the games they like ARE art, but the games they don't like aren't
I don't remember the exact examples but stuff like fortnite, candy crush and such were very much argued to not be art
You can very easily develop a superiority complex as a gamer, see DnD 3.5 vs 5e arguments, balance arguments in games with ranked ladders, speed runner drama... There's bigger egos at stake within 5 posts of gaming shiz than anything anyone has discussed about postmodernism in the entirety of 2024.
A few examples would be disdain for easy modes (beyond not wanting to use them), saying certain games aren’t real games or the people who play them aren’t “real gamers”. The latter is usually aimed at anything they think is mostly played by women, of course!

Like there's plenty of things I dislike but I still think they have value as a piece of art LMAO

Why is there debate when I smoosh art forms together?
