Visited the National Library in Riga today and it's definitely my favourite place in Riga. So many books! There was a great temporary exhibition about books themselves, and the permanent exhibition was also really good. Plus great views from the top floor! ✈️🗺️ - ThreadSky

I wish I'd had more time as the exhibitions were so good! I had to rush round the permanent one as I didn't notice it until I was leaving.

Luckily the airport bus stops right outside.

Yeah, my main reason for visiting was that I needed the toilet and knew it was free xD

I figured I had enough time to walk there, use the toilet and enjoy the view before getting the bus.

Luckily I always give myself lots of time so I had some to spare for the exhibitions.

I love this library - even became a member while visiting. Sadly the top floor was closed for a special event but even the 5th floor has nice views.

The English books were on a lower level so I assume most of those ones are Latvian.

In the Soviet days there wasn't a lot of publishing in Latvian or in the other national languages. Somebody bragged about a great bookstore in Tallinn recently but all the books were in English. 30 yrs isn't a long time to have another language dominate in print. Hard enough for school books.
