I was stationed in Kings Bay Ga back in the 90s. Buckle of the Bible belt . Dry county. Evangelicals. And a fuckton of firearms. Real culture shock to a young fella from rural Galway.
Oh, it's prevalent in the cities, too. It's not likely you would have reason to go to those areas, though. And yes, it always shocks me, as well. I considered taking pics of some things I noticed yesterday. I didn't because it felt exploitative if you know what I mean
I understand what you mean about feeling exploitative. I didn't take any pics either. The worst deprivation I saw was in outer suburban areas in cities of Tennessee, Mississipi and Louisiana
