Back in the '00s, as a Cal State instructor, I had a white student who talked about his work in the orchards. His dad had apparently done this work and wanted him to experience it too.
My parents made me take a summer job picking berries when I was in high school. I didn't fully understand why until I was adult enough to appreciate the lesson. If you do brutal, back breaking work even once in your life, you will NEVER denigrate those who do it every day and don't have a choice.
I propose that any pol or pundit who comes up w a brilliant idea to solve a problem they created should have to participate fully in that solution for a minimum of 30 days. Let them go work in the fields, build the houses, work at daycare, try to find housing on min wage then sleep in car.
