A #Leicestershire villages thread.

1. Ab Kettleby. A Roman mosaic and pavement were found beneath the churchyard of St James’s, indicating the presence of a villa. The Everard Digby memorialised in the church died in 1628 so is not (contra Wikipedia) the Gunpowder plotter.

Really enjoyed that, plus it’s reminded me of more places I need to visit (live in Leeds but am down to visit family regularly). Did stumble on Gumley recently (Mercian kings meeting place as you mention), but haven’t been Owston since I was really young (have family buried there, going way back) 👍

Oh! This is *so* lovely! My late dad collected postcards of the oldest church of every Dutch village and city. We used to tour Nederland, archive of churches and children on the back seat, looking for churches he didn't have yet. I loved those tours!
