I just use dollar store acrylics (DecoArt), but I water them down significantly. That way the layers are very thin, and don’t hold on to brush strokes so easily! I also use veeeery small brushes (even nail art brushes for the extremely tiny details!)

I seal the entire LPS with watered-down matte Mod Podge, then use a DecoArt gloss sealant for the eyes and nose (either the regular polyurethane gloss sealant, or the triple thick if I have some— it’s not always available)

I do water down the gloss sealants a little bit just to help them apply better, but not nearly as much as the paint or Mod Podge. I find I actually want thicker layers w/ the gloss to make it extra shiny :]

Thanks for sharing, that seems like really useful advice! I'm really into any kind of craft stuff lately and I feel like custom LPS is something I'd like to get into eventually!
