First thing that I thought of. I remember coming home from HS and seeing this Live on TV. 15-Year-Old me was enthralled at the U. S. Park Police Bell JetRanger III doing rescues.

That was also the day that DC Metro had its first fatalities -- a train derailment killed three passengers. Like most people, I was at home because of the blizzard and hearing all of this on the radio.

News of last night’s crash immediately brought to mind images of the 1982 incident. I am grateful you posted the article link. I did not recall “the man in the water." Thinking of him and the other souls lost, then and last night, has brought me to tears.
