It is also important to recognise that the rate at which the concentration is rising is faster than ever, at about 3 ppm/year. So, unless there are very rapid emission reductions, we can expect to pass 440 ppm by 2029 and 450 ppm by 2032.

Perhaps these numbers won't mean much to a lot of people, but without rapid emission reductions we will certainly, by any measure, have exceeded 1.5°C of warming by the early part of the 2030s. Many scientific studies indicate that this will have very serious global consequences.

He might be able to stop some measurements, and the ones that add to long time series will be a particularly sad loss. However, he won't easily be able to stop non-US research labs making measurements.

Not at Mauna Loa, but at many other locations around the world. Of course, no other record will extend over the same length of time, but where measurements have been made in parallel with ML for decades they can be linked very reliably.
