This is what drives me most crazy about radio is that there is so much accessible mainstream music from the last 70 years that just doesn't get played in lieu of the same few hundred American Graffiti/Forrest Gump classics

It really is.
I never need to hear My Girl ever again but I need you all to hear Message From a Black Man & many other Temptations deeper cuts.

Another thing that drives me up the wall is even if a radio station does have a slightly different playlist they still play that to death.When I worked retail the oldies station played a lot of am pop tunes I'd never really heard in the wild but wouldnt you know I was sick of those after a month too

And thats just singles! In the mid sixties you start getting albums. With some good album tracks! There is almost limitless amounts of genius beautiful music from the past yet radio and soundtracks keep playing the same few songs. Anyway, here's the oldest of the motown singles comps on spotify.

Maybe they were *too* British and not easily boxed in musically. Kinks were similar but only music people seem to know their weirder stuff and not, like, You Really Got Me. Hollies never had a super big early hit like that even though their stuff was good and respected.
