Loads of aspects of it are baffling - how actual Nazis ended up in positions of influence in the name of law and order etc. then there’s how it came apart. There’s a doc on Netflix about the murder of the fella in charge of the DDR economy after the wall came down contd..
Apart from the murder itself, it shows how Venture Capitalists got into the East and made an absolute killing by basically writing off any (admittedly struggling) industry and the jobs that went with that. As I say, it seems surreal now
At the Stasi museum in Leipzig you can view a machine which shredded people’s letters to their mates (both directions), mixed them with concrete & turned them into bricks for building
