So I’ve had my 1st Black History Month event cancellation because of “DEI concerns,” citing a fear of frivolous suits. Funny thing is, I don’t do DEI, I’m a historian of the Black American experience. A reminder that DEI is just a dog whistle about suppressing history, if you need a reminder.

Thank you for the work you do, and I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.
So I guess I’ll have to print a picture of the cover, tape it onto something else to give her at Cristmanukkah, and have the actual book shipped directly to her house.
(The actual book is ordered and en route to her house as we speak.)
From a bookstore?
Online?
Through the publisher?
Big box stores?
What is the way that it counts the most?
"There have been countless books, articles, and televised reports in recent years about the almost mythic 'white working class' ... Blair LM Kelley restores the Black working class to the center of the American story."
"white working class" mythology is mostly lies
Thank you for writing this.
The Republicans are racists, flat out racists.
I hope you plan to fight it. I'll sign any petitions. 🩷

Nah, college scholars are too mature for such juvenile behavior......
This sucks. Sorry.
Way to invite the Vampires into your house.

dude (not you, them) every month was white history month
company: “here, you lead this group of people and tell us how to attack our DEI problems”
me: “ok, can you not do these specific things”
company: “lol no. we dont have any DEI problems. glad we had this talk”
I'm no historian but even I know caving to fascist demands is how fascists win.
My heartfelt apologies, Dr. Kelley.
Bonus: state employees still have holidays for Confederate Memorial Day AND Jeff Davis birthday too…
And: have to wonder if the Juneteenth holiday is at risk, too
