Point blank allowing calling trans people "freaks" is not about allowing free speech:
It's about allowing hate speech.
This is what LGBTQIA+ people need to know about a week where big tech, including Apple, Meta and TikTok aligned with Trump 🧵

Zuck is trying to play both sides & hopes the Left won't forgo their friends & just move to another platform.
Most of my friends are here.
All @bsky.app needs to do is add content distribution (public, followers, lists) controls & FB users will jump here.
Mark Zuckerburg has announced an end to fact-checking on Meta platforms. Mimicking rhetoric by free speech absolutionist Elon Musk, Zuckerburg said the efforts had "gone too far" at degrading free speech.
As a result of the move, LGBTQIA+ hate will now be allowed on Meta's platforms.
The next time you're called mentally ill for being gay or trans on Insta, Threads or Facebook, it won’t violate the platform's policies.
You can also say ‘A trans woman isn't a woman, it's a pathetic confused man’.

The policy change came amid a sweeping announcement that Meta had "gone too far" with fact-checking and that third-party moderators were "too politically biased". Zuckerberg claimed it was "time to get back to our roots around free expression".
Staff at Meta have been blind sighted by the move, with insiders describing the company as in "total chaos" after the announcement - @404media.co
Starting in the US, Meta will now roll out a ‘community notes’ system in the style of Elon Musk’s X.

It's not the only platform that's fallen in line behind Trump this week:
Gay CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, agreed to donate 1 million to the President-elect's inaugural committee joining Zuckerburg's Meta, Amazon, Open AI and many others - @axios.com

A US Supreme Court case could uphold a nationwide ban on Google and Apple hosting the app in their stores this week.
This is something Trump advocated for, but he has now changed his mind following a series of meetings with the platform’s owners

I need to pull the plug over there
