Today, we honor the courage and resilience of those who marched from Selma to Montgomery 60 years ago. On March 7, 1965, hundreds of peaceful protesters were brutally attacked as they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge, demanding the right to vote.

Their bravery in the face of violence sparked a national outcry and became a turning point in the civil rights movement. Just days later, on March 17, 1965, the Voting Rights Act was introduced to Congress, a direct result of their sacrifices.
And the fight for voting rights continues. Recent laws like Florida's SB 90 and SB 7050 have imposed new restrictions on voting access. Meanwhile, the proposed federal SAVE Act could create barriers for millions of eligible voters.
As we honor the Selma marches, these current ongoing legislative challenges remind us that the fight for voting rights remains a vital part of our democratic journey.
